500 & 1000

The 500, 1000 rupee abolition harebrained scheme has introduced total chaos throughout the country.

I have received telephone calls from friends in many cities complaining about it, and one can see about it on TV. Shopkeepers, taxi drivers, etc have been hit hard. There are traffic jams. A friend of mine telephoned from Mumbai saying he was not able to buy Bisleri water bottles worth 200 rupees because his 500 rupee note was not accepted. A person who had to meet me today telephoned that he cannot come as he does not have 100 rupee notes to pay for the taxi.

It reminds one of Muhammed bin Tughlaq.
